Y-Malawi: Prayers for Africa
From March 30-April 9, I will be traveling with a team of people to help establish a ministry partnership in Malawi Africa working with people whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated by the AIDS virus. Each day I will post our itinerary and an excerpt from our trip devotional so that you can pray along with us. On Sunday, April 10, the SCPC team members will share our experiences in our worship services and I will post some reflections and picture from the trip starting then.
Itinerary: Visit a local World Vision Area Development Project in Malawi to get a vision for what can be accomplished.
Scripture: Luke 9:48
Then he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.” (NLT)
Thought for the day:
Bigness in our culture signifies success. This thinking has also affected the church. Some people think that only big churches are successful. However a more balanced perspective is to recognize that the issue is not size but the quality of who we are and what we do. Small can be beautiful for God and larger institutions that practice love and care can equally be God honoring. But what is more fundamental to this reflection is to recognize that so many of beginnings of the works of God and those of his people are ever so small…The first few children, the first beggar from the street, the first AIDS patient, these are the small beginnings and the first signs of the kingdom of God’s love, peace and care.

Prayer
Lord, we pray that today, in the face of each child, in the simple work that we see carrying on in your name, that we would recognize, honor and bless your presence. We pray that our ministry both today and in the future will be a success in your eyes, faithful to your teaching and a reflection of your great love. Give us the courage to attempt small things for you today. Amen
