Mark Daniels is starting a new series on Christians and goal setting. As a pretty goal-oriented person (I competed in two triathlons, a marathon and a century bike ride last year), I need to be reminded not to treat Lent as another task to accomplish or goal to make. ("One week down and I am still not eating chocolate, only three weeks to go.")
One of the ways we avoid such thinking is to consider some of Mark's ideas. Another way is to remember that while Lent is considered a 40 day "fast", that does not traditionally include Sundays. Sundays have always been "feast days" where the fast is broken. Again, the "goal" is not getting to Easter, but the changes along the way. (So read Mark's posts and have some chocolate after church!)
