Hued sunbeam will transmit
Perfect, not alter it.
Christmas is fast approaching, so my wife and her friend, Tracy, are well into a favorite seasonal pastime: “forcing” bulbs to bring bright Christmas flowers.
The bulbs are about to go from the darkened guest room closet to a prime spot under a sunny window to ready them for blooming. This year, I’ll be more aware of how these delicate flowers-all white and fragile—are a reminder of the great mystery and wonder of the season. The beauty of unexpected color, off-season and bursting with aroma offers us an icon of the incarnation.
In the ancient church, a common poetic way of describing the mystery of the Virgin Birth is the way sunlight can pour through a window bringing growth to a flower seed without breaking the glass.
Light entering a space bringing power and life without altering the space in any way. Silent but powerful, gentle but potent, life-giving yet honoring. How else would a good God conceive?
