Tod:
As I write this, I'm awaiting the arrival of a young man---twenty-seven years old--who's going to help me teach Catechism class this year. He was formerly a Catechism student of mine, thirteen years ago.

While I occasionally get itchy feet and wonder what life might be like elsewhere, I too, have learned the blessings of staying put. And they don't just come to me in my life as a pastor.

I served my first parish for six years, never dreaming until my last few months there that I would ever leave. But called to start a new congregation, I went to my second parish and have been here for fourteen years.

Grace is embodied when a people with whom you live this long see your faults and love you anyway. I have opportunities to share the Gospel with the people in the church and community I would never have had if I'd succumbed to the corporate climber mentality.

Staying put is wonderful! Great post!
